Day School

Homeschooling, done for you.

Fast forwarding to the best version of your best friend

You already have enough on your to-do list. Do you really want to add “dog training” to it?

Think of it as board and train, without sending your best friend away for weeks on end.

Long Island’s premier Day School program will get to your training goals:

in a fraction of the time with a fraction of the effort.

Get long lasting results using effective, dog-friendly techniques.

Why choose Day School?

Traditional one-on-one coaching lessons are great. But not all of Long Island’s best dog owners have the time or desire to become a dog training expert. If you are looking to spend more time just enjoying your dog, Day School may be for you!

With Day School, you can expect to:

  • Restore the peace back into your life sooner than trying to do it yourself.

  • Prevent training the dog from falling off the radar because you’re already over-scheduled.

  • Allow a highly experienced, professional dog trainer to do get the needed behavior change at an accelerate the pace. You reach your goals much sooner; instead of struggling between weekly lessons.

  • Save you time from having to do all the teaching.

  • Prevent frustration for both you and your dog because everyone is learning something new at the same time. Instead, dive into a relationship where communication is clear for both.

How does Day School work?

The trainer visits your dog 3-5 times per week for hour-long training sessions, socialization trips or outings to work on behavior modification and proofing the taught behaviors. Every 7-10 days, you attend a transfer lesson to get full use your dog’s new found skills. Instead of you homeschooling your dog yourself, you’ll just be helping with homework.

Ready for a “done for you” experience?

Best part: No need to be there. You can be at work or doing the things you need to get done.

Note: Day School packages are booked after an Initial Consultation and are customized for you based on your goals and needs. Pricing will reflect program length, follow up and days per week. Below are example packages that cover commonly requested goals.

Your questions, answered.

  • Yes. Day School’s goal is that the trainer develops the skill and you maintain it. Without regular practice, your dog is likely to revert to old habits.

  • It depends! If the dog is uncomfortable with new people, Day School may require too much time for the dog to acclimate to make it worth it. In that case, Barkitects can help you with tackling you behavior issues with on-on-one coaching.

  • Nope! You can conveniently be out at work or doing the things you need to get done during the training sessions.

You are only needed to be present for the transfer and follow up sessions. Your presence and attention at these sessions are essential for you to get the maximum benefits of your program.

  • Because of the time commitment for Day School, a smaller service radius is offered. Typically, Day School cases (dog-trainer sessions) are taken during primarily business hours from Syosset to Smithtown, north of the LIE; in addition to areas along the Sagtikos Parkway. Please inquire to find out if service in your area is available.

  • Program length will be dictated by your goals and number of sessions per week. In order to make notable changes to your dog’s behavior, time is needed to teach the skills and then proof them to work in real life. Most Day School programs run 4-6 weeks but will be customized to meet your needs.

  • This is the lesson with you and the trainer and is essential to your success. You get to learn how to get the maximum benefit of your sidekick’s new found skills. Instead of spending all the time learning how to build the skills, you just get to maintain them; given to you in easy, small bites.

  • Yes! Additional follow up lessons are built into the package. Most programs include a follow up within a week of the end of the program and then an additional one 2-3 weeks later to ensure everyone is staying on track.

  • Usually the first few session are at your house jumpstarting the needed foundation behaviors. Once your dog is ready, they head out into the world to get those skills working in real life. Location destinations may be your own neighborhood, local parks, or even downtown areas depending on your goals.

  • Training plans are 100% customized to your dog’s evaluation and your goals. The training plan will be discussed extensively at the consultation and outlined in your contract.

  • At Barkitects, motivational training is done to build the dog you’d like to have! Unlike many Long Island dog training programs, you will not find any choke, prong or shock collars on the dogs in our care. Dogs are motivated with treats, play, attention, and real life rewards (going for a walk, getting out a door, sniffing, etc.). Rules and boundaries are installed in a kind manner. Self control and listening skills are built, good habits are formed and bad ones eliminated. No yelling or yanking required!

  • You will be asked to provide food/treats, favorite toys, leash and collar/harness. Please be sure to note if your dog has any dietary restrictions.

  • Example Day School programs above contain pricing. Exact pricing will be based on number of days per week, follow up sessions needed and length of program. Please inquire with your goals/issues and what town you reside in to get an exact quote.
